Contact Pads



Contact pads are the most important part of the clamp attachment. In most normal handling situations, the pads are the only parts of the clamp which actually are in contact with the paper roll. Therefore, Bolzoni Auramo has paid special attention in designing and manufacturing contact pads which will ensure safe and non-damaging roll handling.

Cast Pads

Cast Pads

  • Cast contact pads are the standard pads of several Bolzoni Auramo roll clamp models.
  • Cast pads are good all-round pads that are at their best with softer paper grades.
  • Cast contact pads are made of special cast iron (ADI Meehanite).
  • Single piece design.
  • Diamond-shaped cast friction surface.
  • Very durable and wear-resistant material.
  • Require only a minimum amount of daily service.
  • Good all-round pads.
  • Standard pads on many paper roll clamp models.
  • Limited size range available.

Contact Pads - Rubber Faced

  • Rubber-faced contact pads are available as optional pads for all Bolzoni Auramo roll clamp attachments. They are also used as standard pads on some roll clamp models.
  • The upper, lower and front edges of the rubber are sunken to the pad base plate and thus the edges of the rubber are well protected against mechanical wear.
  • Rubber-faced pads are good all-round pads for all paper grades.
  • Standard rubber faced pads have a black rubber layer vulcanized onto the pad base.
  • To protect the rubber edges from wear and damage, the front, upper and lower edges of the rubber are sinked into the pad plate.
  • Very good friction properties on all wrapper types.
  • Normally require only a low amount of periodic maintenance.
  • Standard pads on some paper roll clamp models. Optionally available for all models.
  • All sizes and models available.
  • Full-length pads available.

Contact Pads - Steel-Sprayed

  • Steel-sprayed contact pads are available as optional pads for all Bolzoni Auramo roll clamp attachments. They are also used as standard pads on some roll clamp models. Steel-sprayed pads are good all-round pads for all paper grades.
  • Steel-sprayed pads have rough stainless steel spraying on the pad base plate. The result is a high-friction surface with good handling properties.
  • Very high friction, also on icy environments. Not recommended for plastic wrappers.
  • Requires periodic cleaning to maintain operational properties.
  • Standard pads on some paper roll clamp models. Optionally available for all models.
  • All sizes and models available.
  • Full-length pads available.

Contact Pads - Polyurethane-Faced

  • The polyurethane-faced contact pads are available as optional pads for many Bolzoni Auramo roll clamp attachments.
  • The friction surface of these pads is formed by molding liquid polyurethane solution onto the pad plate. The result is a non-marking friction surface with relatively good friction properties.
  • Good all-round pads that are at their best with softer paper grades.
  • Optional pads for all paper roll clamp models.
  • All sizes and models available.
  • Full-length pads available.

Contact Pads - Grooved Black Rubber Faced

  • Special Surface / Grooved Black Rubber Faced Pads
  • Special rubber facing, which is glued onto the pad base.
  • Very high friction surface.
  • Same applications as with the standard rubber facing.
  • ”Sticks” less to the wrapper with some wrapper types.
  • Special Surface / Cross Grooved Black Rubber Faced Pads
  • Same as above specs.
  • Optional pads for all paper roll clamp models.
  • All sizes and models available.
  • Full-length pads available.

Contact Pads - Sand Paper Faced

  • Sand paper faced pads have high-quality sand paper glued on a plain pad base plate.
  • Only high grade, fabric-reinforced papers are used.
  • Very high friction surface.
  • Friction surface can be renewed locally if correct procedures are followed.
  • Requires periodic cleaning to maintain operational properties.
  • Not recommended for plastic wrappers.
  • Optional pads for all paper roll clamp models.
  • All sizes and models available.
  • Full-length pads available.
Cast Pads - Flexible

Cast Pads - Flexible

  • Flexible contact pads can automatically adjust to varying paper roll diameters.
  • When clamping, a flexible, rubber-faced stainless steel plate is pressed towards the paper roll. The hinged pad frame allows the band to adjust to the roll diameter.
  • These pads are primarly designed for newsprint handling when there is a need to minimize surface pressure applied to the roll.
  • Optional pads for many paper roll clamp models.
  • Limited size and capacity range available.
  • Full-length pads available.
  • Relatively high add-on price
  • Less strength against misuse and external shocks when compared to standard pad design.
Contact Pads for Tissue Paper

Contact Pads for Tissue Paper

  • The standard contact pad for tissue roll clamps is an oversized rubber-faced pad.
  • The tissue pads can also be delivered without any friction surface.
  • If the paper roll is very soft, the upper and lower edges of the tissue pads can optionally be strongly chamfered in order to prevent the pad edges from cutting into the paper roll.
  • Special pad sizes are available on request.
